Squeezecast (former SqueezePod) turns your iPhone/iPad into a Logitech® Squeezebox™ player.

You can stream your music from your home computer to your iPhone without any loss in quality (WiFi) or encoded as MP3 (over 3G/Edge). FLAC is supported.

Squeezecast simulates a Squeezebox player. It does not use remote streaming (stream.mp3).

- Please read the "Before you purchase" section below before purchasing.

QUICK START

1. Download SqueezeBox server from: http://www.mysqueezebox.com/download. Install it on the same computer where you have your music collection.

2. Install and setup a music library (or use you existing iTunes library) and scan.

3. Locate the following info:
- IP or host name to the computer where SqueezeBox Server was installed
- Web Server Port (default 9000). Optional, only used for album art.
- CLI port (default 9090)

4. Start the application and assign Name/IP. If you have password protected the SqueezeBox Server, dont forget to assign the username and password as well.
If you have problems connecting, make sure no firewall is blocking TCP 3483, TCP 9090, HTTP 9000.

5. When Squeezecast has connected you should be able to browse artists and play an album. You can also control Squeezecast and setup playlists etc from the SqueezeBox Server web interface. A player named "Squeezecast" should have been added to the drop down in the upper right corner (see screenshot).

Squeezecast is not a complete remote controller, nor does it intend to be. You can currently only browse artists and choose to select a complete album for your playlist. We recommend using iPeng to control playback having Squeezecast running in the background (make sure to enable the "keep alive" setting). You can also manage playlists in Squeezebox Server web interface.

Squeezecast does not work with Squeeze Server plugins such as Spotify or Rhapsody.

Synchronization of the music stream between Squeezecast and other SqueezeBox devices does not work very well due to too high latency.

There might be stuttering a few seconds at the start of a track when manually pushing play or next/prev (i.e. not between tracks in the playlist). This depends on the audio quality, the speed of the connection and the Squeezecast buffer size (which currently cannot be changed)

TIPS & TRICKS

-- Use third-party Squeezebox remote controllers --
Search for "Squeezebox" to find them.
You can also use the web interface (open a browser on the computer where you installed SqueezeBox Server and type http://localhost:9000).

-- Streaming away from home with 3G/EDGE --
Squeezecast over 3G/EDGE will probably not work very well for full quality audio like FLAC since bandwith will be limited. To solve this, you can tell SqueezeBox Server to encode your audio on the fly to a lower bitrate. See http://karmeye.com/node/50
